Off and Running into February!

Image
Good Afternoon, It was such a great week celebrating NDLC, and seeing the school spirit in dress up days and culminating with the Virtual Pep Rally! Along with all the great learning and discovering that happened throughout the week, it truly was a great week to celebrate all the good that is associated with NDLC, and that is all of the students and families that make it GREAT! Week in Review: Math: The math work took a big shift in our thinking with fractions, and number lines along with comparing fractions, and we ended the week with a quick quiz. Students are working really hard to master this new thinking! Writing: Our essay writers ended this week and took a look at the growth they have made as essayists in just one week! So much to be proud of! Reading: Readers were focusing on noticing the story mountain and how our characters change along it, and noticing the problems in the stories and how our characters react to them. A Look Ahead: Report Cards Sent home Monday. That is all

Good Afternoon, Today marks the halfway point in this school year. There is so much to celebrate in terms of growth for everyone, and so many great things happening every day in the classroom! It's truly been such a special year for so many reasons, and I look forward to continue to build on the foundation we laid in the first half for continued growth in the second half!  Week in Review: Math: We began our Unit with focus on Fractions! This is some very new thinking for students, but we are persevering, and discovering new learning every day! Writing: Writers began to work on literary essays, and I am so excited for this unit because the students were very excited about the prospect of this kind of writing! Reading: Our readers are really trying to focus in on their theories about characters, and noticing everything they can about the characters in their books. We started book clubs which everyone was excited about! Content: Our research led us to understand First Nations and Peo

Another Week of Growing Completed!

Good Afternoon, As we approach the halfway point in the school year with this past week seeing us completing a lot of testing whether that be math unit assessments, math mid-year assessments, i-Ready assessments, or even end of writing unit assessments! It has been a busy stretch indeed, but the one thing I love is the kids resiliency even during a long, tiring stretch. We always talk about two things we can control and expect of ourselves everyday with the first being our attitude, and the second being our effort. I am so proud of every single student for their effort and attitude, and look forward to what growth we all continue to make in the second half of the year! Week in Review:  Math: Students completed their Unit 2 and Mid-Year assessments, as well as their Winter Math i-Ready> The results demonstrate what I have been seeing in the classroom as they persevered through a busy week in math as we look forward to our next unit starting next week. Writing: The writers completed

Good Afternoon, It was a great feeling being back in the classroom with everyone after the winter break, and the students adjusted very nicely to getting back in routines as we were able to hit the ground running with the new year. This is time of year with lots of mid year things coming up, but it's the daily process of being with everyone that allows us to really focus in and enjoy the growth we are working for each day. Week in Review: Math: Students worked on multiplication and division facts, problems, and games! Our unit test is coming up, and students confidence is growing as we are heading into the end of our unit.  Writing: The writers completed yet another opinion piece just this week! They have such great energy in writing as they are passionate about writing to make a change! Reading: We began our study of characters in our books, and working to back up our ideas we have with text evidence! Content: Students began to learn about the History of First People and First Na
