KAT WEEK NEXT WEEK!

Image
Good Afternoon, As we completed our final week in the month of February, we have lots of exciting things as we head into the month of March. Our look ahead below will tell more about the exciting things coming up at NDLC. This past week a student came up to me, and said they feel like their brain is really getting bigger because they are learning so much in 3rd grade. We cover so many different things in 3rd grade, and when I say weekly that the students are making so much growth daily is because it is true! They have been working so hard daily, setting goals, and persevering in their learning, and I am extremely proud of their efforts and attitudes to learn every day.  Week in Review: Writing: Writers have been taking their research from reading to begin planning to write their own informational books about the animal they are doing research on. This week was about learning to grow ideas, and planning to get ready to draft their ideas next week! Math: Students worked this week with gr

Last Full Week of February Flew By

Good Afternoon, As we wrap up our last full school week of February the students have been tremendous in their daily efforts to continue to try their best every day. Cabin fever starts to set in this time of year at times for students because winter cold and snow seems to just linger around, but I have been impressed by their ability to always show up ready to learn and grow. In our Leader in Me lessons this week we learned about 'I' Messages to help us effectively communicate whenever we are in a situation where we don't like what is being done or said, and this time of year you start to see a little bit more of the frustration with friendships at times during recess. With that being said, students have been willing to have those honest conversations to communicate their feelings should their be frustrations which is a great skill to have. Hopefully we have some warmer weather in our future, but until then we will continue to push ourselves to grow both academically and so

Halfway through February

Good Afternoon, As we wrap up another week, and looking ahead its hard to believe that we only have 2 full weeks left in February. Spring is right around the corner, but I am really proud of all the work and growth the students have made since the new year while we continue to build for a strong stretch heading into spring. The January/February stretch for students can seem very long with only a couple of days off for them, but their energy and attitudes have been fantastic all the way through which has made the classroom really a great place to be every day. Week in Review:  Writing: Writers worked on becoming great debaters as they compared two characters from stories to debate a position they had formed from the story. Writers flash drafted 3 essays in 3 days, and spent today choosing one to revise and edit to get ready for publication on Seesaw soon!  Math: The mathematicians were working on concepts with fractions and measurement. With these new concepts we took extra time to mak

Snowy February

Good Afternoon, I hope this update finds you well as the snow is falling on this Friday, and the cold air continues to linger around. Inside at NDLC the 3rd graders have been working hard, and continuing to build on their learning every single day. With report cards being on IC this past week, and i-Ready scores will be sent home next week, I am reminded as a teacher just how much the students are pushing themselves every day. With these different data points, and at the halfway point in the school year it is important to understand that each child is working hard every day, and may not be exactly where they want to be at the end of the year, but also remembering we only at the halfway point. We are all going to continue to push ourselves every day to try and make that growth every day. Week in Review: Writing: Writers worked with more independence on their literary essays, and we ended the week working on revising our writing to lift the level of our writing to the best it can be!
