Happy New Year!

Good Afternoon,

As we wrap up our first week back in school for 2022 it was great to see all the students back in the classrooms and hallways as the energy in the building was fantastic. Students seemed very excited to be back, and their learning this week reflected that as they transitioned back very well hitting the ground running. Everyone seemed refreshed after winter break, and I am looking forward to seeing the growth both academically and socially as we continue into 2022!

Week in Review:

Writing: Writers finished up their opinion writing unit by typing up their favorite piece of writing during the unit. Writers worked with their partners to make sure their final piece was the best they had written using all the different strategies they learned during the unit. We will be sending those opinion pieces to the audience that the writers want!

Math: Students have been working on building their knowledge in multiplication and division in our unit, with a an emphasis on learning 6s,7s, 8s with problems. We also learned about square numbers visually to understand why it is considered a square number because the array forms a square!

Reading: Readers ended their mystery unit this week celebrating all of the hard work during unit. They created projects to be able to teach others about what they learned as they are now detectives and masters of mysteries. We celebrated by joining with Mrs. Kocourek's class sharing our projects with each other, and ending reading time by solving a mystery altogether by watching a Scooby Doo episode! Check out pictures from our celebration here!

Leader in Me: Our class talked about Habit 4: Think Win-Win. Ask your child, "What does thinking abundantly mean?"

Content: We began research on First People and First Nations in the United States this week. Students also researched the difference between primary and secondary sources which will help them when researching different questions and topics this month.

A Look Ahead:

  • Tuesday January 11th & Wednesday January 12th students will be taking their Winter i-Ready. This assessment is used to see where students are at at the halfway point of the school year, and what areas we can continue to work on to make growth. It's important for students to be well rested and to have a breakfast those days to have plenty of energy to do their best!
That's all for this week!

Have a great weekend!

Mr. VW
