Another week in the books!

 Good Afternoon,

It was another great week in the classroom with lots of growing both academically and socially. Students have been working hard and learning how to take pride in their work! I hope the students find time to sharpen their saw this weekend because they have been working very hard in the classroom, and need time to reenergize!

Week in Review:

Writing: Writers concluded their first writing unit by typing up and publishing one of their completed stories, and also did some identity work of themselves being proud of who they are as writers by completing an all about the author page for their celebration.

Math: Mathematicians are continuing to work hard with their subtraction learning and practice, and we are beginning to see the connection between the addition and subtraction we've been focusing on the past couple of weeks.

Reading: Readers are wrapping up their series book club units, and will be transitioning into a non-fiction reading unit with big unit goals being able to identify main idea in a text and the text structure that is being used! Readers will still be reading some fiction as well in this upcoming unit to help maintain the reading volume and stamina they have gained this past unit.

Leader in Me: Our class talked about quality of work. Ask your child, "How do you know when you have produced quality work?"

Content: Researchers took their knowledge public this week by using Seesaw, Google Slides, or posters to display in school. Pictures below at the end of the blog!

A Look Ahead:

  • Family Night! Tuesday, October 12th!
  • We are looking to finalize details on a Field Trip to the Little Farmer for Monday, October 18th to celebrate the end of our science unit where the focus to discover how plants reproduce by exploring the process of pollination and fruiting. They also investigated how plant traits are inherited from parent plants, and how favorable plant traits can be enhanced by humans via artificial selection.
    • Keep an eye out for permission slips early next week, as we will be looking for a few chaperones for this field trip as well!
That's all for this week!

Mr. VW
