Snowy February

Good Afternoon,

I hope this update finds you well as the snow is falling on this Friday, and the cold air continues to linger around. Inside at NDLC the 3rd graders have been working hard, and continuing to build on their learning every single day. With report cards being on IC this past week, and i-Ready scores will be sent home next week, I am reminded as a teacher just how much the students are pushing themselves every day. With these different data points, and at the halfway point in the school year it is important to understand that each child is working hard every day, and may not be exactly where they want to be at the end of the year, but also remembering we only at the halfway point. We are all going to continue to push ourselves every day to try and make that growth every day.

Week in Review:

Writing: Writers worked with more independence on their literary essays, and we ended the week working on revising our writing to lift the level of our writing to the best it can be!

Math: We started our new math unit, and this week we started with a focus all on fractions. Students worked hard all week, and by the end of the week had made great growth in their understanding of this new concept!

Reading: Readers are working with books clubs to develop strong 3rd grade ideas and writing about their reading. They are thinking about ideas about their characters, and following the story mountain to build those strong ideas and thinking.

Leader in Me: Our class talked about attentive listening. Ask your child, " What do attentive listeners do?"

Content: Students were researching the relationships between First Nations and First People to Europeans, and how those relationships started and ended.

A Look Ahead:

Valentines Day - February 14th. We are able to exchange Valentines! I can send you a class list if you would like your child to do any exchanges!

That's all! Have a great weekend!

Mr. VW
