April Around the Corner!

 Good Afternoon,

As we wrap up conference week I want to say thank you for such a great week of connecting with all of you. Conferences are truly one of my favorite times of the year because of the fact that we get to pause, and reflect on all the growth each student is making. We look up and it is already April at the end of next week, and the school year always seems to fly by so these moments of reflection are critical when thinking back on how far everyone has come since September. Looking forward to ending the year with 2 more months of great growth and opportunity ahead of us.

Week in Review:

Writing: Writers have been working extremely hard to continue to lift the level of their writing in the test prep unit. They have been using various strategies and charts to help guide them to make sure they can get the best possible score when answering the questions!

Math: Students continued their work with fractions, perimeter and area this week exploring the concepts through math talk building their understanding. Next week we will wrap up the unit with their unit assessment!

Reading: Readers have been working through test prep questions identifying the best answers that test makers might give them after reading through a passage. It has been fun to see the confidence grow with everyone the more practice we get on these, and I am excited to see the students continue to build that confidence that they can take on anything that is given to them.

Leader in Me: Our class talked about barriers to synergy. Ask your child, "How are cliques a barrier to synergy?"

Content: Researchers finished their learning on stormy skies, weather patterns, and are now experts in the field of meteorology. Students designed ways to protect cars in the event that hail may be coming to prevent damage, and the designs were unique and brilliant!

A Look Ahead:

  • Penny War begins next week! NDLC student council is raising money for the Pillars warming shelter, and is looking to Pack the Piggy Banks that each grade is competing against each other. Students can bring in any pennies, silver or dollars to contribute all week.

  • Field trip forms were sent home yesterday for our 2 field trips we have coming up to end the year. Please feel free to return them at any time.
  • WI Forward testing will begin Tuesday, April 5th. Please let me know if you have any questions about the Forward process.
  • If your child completed the Fang Reading Program, but forgot to turn in the cutout just let me know! I will make sure they are marked down for the reward for completing the program.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Mr. VW
