March Madness!

 Good Afternoon,

In the sports world this time of year is referred to as "March Madness" for the men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments going on. This time of year in the classroom is a busy time as well as we look ahead to conferences next week, and students getting excited about the change in weather with warmer days on the horizon while state testing is coming next month. The school year has just been flying by as it usually does, and I am really looking forward to connecting with all of you next week during conferences to celebrate all the growth students have made, and map out a road plan for what the remainder of the year looks like.

Week in Review:

Writing: Writers began their test prep in writing working on identifying details to support answers that might be on the test. Also, they worked to discover what exactly is the precise, best answer then supporting that to get the best possible score.

Math: Students worked through perimeter and area problems, and concluded the week with a quick quiz on those concepts. We will continue to work on strategies to solidify our learning in those areas.

Reading: Readers worked very hard in their test prep unit to read closely through passages to gain full understanding to make sure any question they are given to feel confident they will know the answer. We will continue to learn some test taking tips, and students are working on building up their reading stamina so they can be reading for longer periods of time.

Leader in Me: Our class talked about involving others to accomplish more. Ask your child, "What are the benefits of involving others?"

Content: We learned about climates around the whole world as well as our areas, and what we can expect to see in our weather patterns during the year. Then we transitioned to wind, and touched upon how powerful wind can be in certain areas.

A Look Ahead:

  • Conferences are coming up! You can sign up here for a time that works best for your family! Conferences will be held on the nights of March 22nd and March 24th.
  • Conference Survey! Similar to our first round of conferences, if your family could fill out this conference survey it helps me make sure we cover everything you want covered in addition to how your child is doing academically.
  • Half Day Friday, March 25th
  • Penny War - March 28th-April 1st to raise money for the Pillars Warming Shelter!
That's all for this week, enjoy your weekend!

Mr. VW
