Forward testing is done!

Good Afternoon,

Today as a class we celebrated all of the hard work and efforts the students put into test prep, and Forward testing with some treats to end the day. The students did such an amazing job, and they should all feel very proud of themselves and their efforts. I want to thank all of you for the support of your child at home because the students showed up confident, and ready to take it on and "show off" their knowledge. It's a challenging few weeks to stay focused and engaged, and they were champions in their effort and determination, and I am extremely proud of all the students.

Week in Review:

Writing: Writers worked with their writing groups to put together their own versions of "Who Would Win" books. They are finishing up final revisions, and will be sending it to printing and publication very soon! Keep an eye out for their work!

Math: Students had their WI Forward math session this week, and we had our final quick quiz to wrap up our week. Everyone did great, and we will review for our unit test coming up next week.

Reading: Readers had a pre-assessment for our final unit 'Social Issues'. We discussed the characters, characters change, and themes/life lessons in preparation for our last unit. This unit will aim to emphasize even more about how students can read books to learn and to teach them how to live their lives. We use the term 'social issues' for the unit because it refers to issues that can affect a lot of people, not just one person or character. Social issues go beyond the main problem a character can face in a story, and this unit will help promote students to be social advocates for themselves and others.

Leader in Me: Leaders continued their work of bringing the class mission statement back to the forefront by knowing it inside and out. They performed skits for their classmates acting out different aspects of our mission statement, and what it looks like in real life.

Content: Researchers continued their research on animals through time. With a focus on fossils, habitats, and environments over time as well as fossil evidence and classification. We had focusing questions on whether they could out run a dinosaur, how we know what dinosaurs looked like, and where we can find a whale in the desert!

A Look Ahead:
  • Monday, April 25th - 3rd Grade Field Trip to NEW Zoo
  • Tuesday, April 26th - Class Color Dress Up Day (3rd Grade is the color purple)
  • May will be a busy month with lots of end of year activities! Hopefully sunnier, warmer days are ahead!

That's all for this week!
Enjoy the weekend, and beautiful weather day predicted on Saturday!

Mr. VW
