Hello April!

Good Afternoon,

As we embark on another month of learning and growing, we head into the beginning of Forward testing beginning next week Tuesday. The schedule for next week has us testing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during the morning. Students will be doing a Writing portion Tuesday, Listening/Writing Language on Wednesday, and Reading on Thursday. We want to make sure students are getting a good nights sleep coming into each day as well as a breakfast either at home or school to maximize energy and stamina on the test. If you would like to write your child a motivational message or encouraging words, please feel free to email me the message and I will make sure it is printed out for your child to read before taking their tests! The students are ready, and we are treating this like our expectations are for every other day which is having a positive attitude and giving our best effort!

Week in Review:

Writing: Writers worked through prompts to try and construct responses that will result in the highest scores. We studied what those responses look and sound like, and I am proud of the efforts the writers made this week to try and do their best in their writing.

Math: Students finished their unit studying area, perimeter, and fractions with their unit assessment. We ended our week with a celebration where students studies the area and perimeter of a piece of paper to try and build the best sized paper airplane to fly! (Picture Below)

Reading: Readers worked through passages with their minds turned on for tips and strategies to best understand nonfiction passages. Repeated words and subheadings are great ways for us as readers to help us determine the main idea of sections we are reading to help us best understand a questions that may be asking us about that particular part.

Content: Researchers used their knowledge on weather to go outside to make weather predictions. (Pictures below) We will transition to our next unit studying animals through time in preparation for our upcoming field trip to the zoo later this month.

A Look Ahead:

  • Forward Testing: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
  • ‘Egg’cellent Egg Crack Off
    • Students at NDLC will be participating in an Egg Crack-off. Please send a hard-boiled egg in a container to school with your child on Wednesday, April 13.  Eggs cannot have paint, crayon, marker, or film on them. Each classroom will have a contest. When two hard boiled eggs are hit only one will crack!  The winner of each classroom will then crack off against the winners from other classes while the rest of the school watches. It’s an “egg-cellent” time for all!
  • Environmental Club Update:
    • Our last day collecting muffin bags will be April 13th. We will be mailing them out soon after. Thank you for turning them in and making it a successful environmental project!-Environmental Club
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

Mr. VW
