We are on to Week 3!
Good Afternoon,
We had another week filled with learning in 3rd Grade along with building our classroom community which has made Room 95 feel like home. The students are doing an excellent job of being kind to one another, learning about each other, and learning from one another as we progress together on our learning journeys. Here is an update of the week and what to expect from the week ahead.
Reading: The 3rd graders continued to learn strategies on how to build a strong reading life, and we have had a tremendous classroom atmosphere of respecting others to make sure everyone has an environment to become the best reader they can.
Writing: Students were tasked to bring home their tiny topic notebooks to get ideas to put in there. We are working in a narrative unit, and looking for stories about ourselves and the small moments in our lives we can write about. Writers find ideas from even the smallest things so the help of realizing small moments can be turned into stories is sometimes hard to grasp, but hopefully with the help of family we can get some ideas in their notebooks to write about!
Math: We have been working with place values and understanding the ones, tens, hundredths, and thousandths place. Building those numbers with place value drawings, secret code cards, and word names; the students have done a great job of understanding and pushing their minds to think math terms, and specifically place values.
If you haven't yet, to access your child's Seesaw please click here! From there you will be prompted to select your child's name where you will then be able to access their work they post on Seesaw!
Next week is Safety week, so we will be doing various drills throughout the week to make sure we are safe in our school no matter the situation.
Students did an iReady diagnostic today in math and reading, and we talked about how this helps all of us to know what we already know and what we still need to learn so we can set goals!
Lastly, to end the day we discussed why September 11th is a day people remember. We watched a video of the importance of remembering History, and that if the students asked their families what they were doing that day they would remember. The lesson we learned from the video was not to remember the wrong things and hate, but remember the love and people coming together to unite for good.
Have a Great Weekend,
Mr. VW
