Hello December!
Good Afternoon,
I hope everyone was able to spend time with family and friends over break. It was a great week back in the classroom as the students have done a great job because we transitioned back with multiple different units starting, and they truly hit the ground running. I know it feels like the year is flying by as the calendar has already switched over to December, but always remember to take time to reflect on the daily growth that's being made because it's special to see how far the students grow in their learning journeys.
Week in Review:
Writing: Writers began the week in their new unit, Changing the World, which is all about opinion writing and persuasive speeches. We began with Day 0 which allowed us to learn from kids the same age as them that have given powerful speeches to learn the impact that our writing can have. Writers then ended the week writing some of the opinions they have giving reasons and examples for the thesis they came up!
Math: Our mathematicians have been working extremely hard on understanding concepts, learning different strategies, and building confidence in themselves to take on the problems being given to them. We have another week before we will have our unit assessment on concepts related to multiplication and division.
Reading: A mystery happened in our classroom where all of the fiction books disappeared from our classroom library! So readers have been working diligently to solve it by reading lots of mystery books with their reading partners to become better detectives! Who knows who might have taken them?!
Leader in Me: Our class talked about "Big Rocks" -- the most important tasks, activities, and goals. Ask your child, "What are your "Big Rocks this week?"
Content: Students began a new science unit, "Invisible Forces". Our focus this unit will be centered around forces, motion, and magnets!
