Approaching the Midway of the School Year
Good Afternoon,
This week felt long to students as they completed their winter i-Ready, and other mid year assessments as we are heading towards the end of our first semester. Students worked extremely hard, and they kept a positive attitude through it all as it gives us as teachers and staff a one day snapshot of where we are at, and where we can best continue with every student on this learning journey we are all on together. I'm proud of all the work and growth the students have made so far, and I'm excited to see where they can continue to grow as we head into the second part of our school year in the next week.
Week in Review:
Writing: Writers began their writing of literary essays this past week. Writers worked with the same class read aloud for their first 3 essays, and used their knowledge of opinion writing to help start off strong lifting the level of their first few essays.
Math: Our mathematicians are taking their knowledge of multiplication and division, and now are learning about the order of operations. This is helping them when solving two step word problems which can be tricky work, but they are doing a great job of persevering when things get challenging.
Reading: Readers began their new unit which focuses on character studies. Readers are diving into fiction books with a focus on strategies that will help them get to know the characters in their books well, which will help them understand the stories they are reading even deeper.
Leader in Me: Our class talked about thinking win-win to solve problems. Ask your child, "What does it mean to 'Think Win-Win'?
Content: Researchers continued to learn about the first people and nations of North America, and the hundreds of Native American nations that existed here in America and Wisconsin before European arrival as well as many that are still around today right here in Wisconsin,
Special Presentation! Recently, one of our 3rd Graders, Fanta, went on a trip to Gambia. Students were able to learn about life, culture, and lots more from Fanta as she shared what it was like to go visit West Africa!
