Halfway through February
Good Afternoon,
As we wrap up another week, and looking ahead its hard to believe that we only have 2 full weeks left in February. Spring is right around the corner, but I am really proud of all the work and growth the students have made since the new year while we continue to build for a strong stretch heading into spring. The January/February stretch for students can seem very long with only a couple of days off for them, but their energy and attitudes have been fantastic all the way through which has made the classroom really a great place to be every day.
Week in Review:
Writing: Writers worked on becoming great debaters as they compared two characters from stories to debate a position they had formed from the story. Writers flash drafted 3 essays in 3 days, and spent today choosing one to revise and edit to get ready for publication on Seesaw soon!
Math: The mathematicians were working on concepts with fractions and measurement. With these new concepts we took extra time to make sure we worked through any confusion that can arise with a new concept. We ended our week just starting to talk through the concept of time!
Reading: Book clubs have been going well daily in the classroom where students have book club dates where they get to meet to talk through ideas they have while reading their books. Pushing their thinking by trying strategies we are learning while also having an emphasis on jotting (writing quick thoughts during reading) have been great ways to see the readers continue to grow.
Leader in Me: Our class talked about the importance of not prejudging others. Ask your child, "What might you miss if you prejudge others?"
Content: Students learned about the early colonization of European settlers up and down the East Coast in the regions of the 13 colonies.
A Look Ahead:
- Valentine's Day Monday, February 14th. We will be having a classroom celebration to end our day and exchange any Valentines at that time!
- No School February 21st, Monday for students
