Last Full Week of February Flew By
Good Afternoon,
As we wrap up our last full school week of February the students have been tremendous in their daily efforts to continue to try their best every day. Cabin fever starts to set in this time of year at times for students because winter cold and snow seems to just linger around, but I have been impressed by their ability to always show up ready to learn and grow. In our Leader in Me lessons this week we learned about 'I' Messages to help us effectively communicate whenever we are in a situation where we don't like what is being done or said, and this time of year you start to see a little bit more of the frustration with friendships at times during recess. With that being said, students have been willing to have those honest conversations to communicate their feelings should their be frustrations which is a great skill to have. Hopefully we have some warmer weather in our future, but until then we will continue to push ourselves to grow both academically and socially every day striving to be the best version of ourselves!
Week in Review:
Writing: Writers completed their essay/opinion writing this week, and the transformation they made in their writing was tremendous. We looked at our first essays to our last to see the growth we made, and students were blown away from where they started to where they are now. A great celebration for all!
Math: Time was our focus this week with telling time to the nearest minute, using a number line to help us with time, and then being able to solve word problems involving time! It's been great energy in math TIME!
Reading: Readers transitioned from their book clubs focusing on characters to research clubs focusing on animals. Readers are working on their nonfiction reading skills and strategies to build knowledge and become experts on the animal their club picked!
Leader in Me: Our class talked about using 'I' messages. Ask your child, "What is an 'I' message?"
Content: Students concluded their research on First Nations, Meeting of First Nations and Europeans, and the beginning of colonization of Europeans. We will be transition back to science topics next week.
A Look Ahead:
- No school for students, Monday February 21st.
- KAT Week February 28th-March 4th
- That's all for this week!
