End of April!

Good Afternoon,

We wrapped up another month of school today, and it is hard to believe we only have one month of school left in this school year. It's been a great to be on the learning journey with all of the students, and as we head into the final month its amazing to reflect on the growth and progress that everyone has made. I am excited to see the students continue to grow this final month of school for the 2021-2022 year!

Week in Review:

Writing: Writers began their final writing unit where they are able to write realistic fiction stories. This is a brand new unit from Teachers College that our school is being able to use before it goes public next year. The writers are loving being able to create their own characters in this writing, and bring them to life using a lot of the strategies they have learned from their how to write a true story unit.

Math: Students had their unit test to end the week, and worked on any corrections to solidify their learning in this unit. We will begin our final unit next week where we will be using a lot of our learning from the year, and solving word problems as an emphasis.

Reading: Our social issues unit began with readers really paying attention to the issues and lessons that are in the books we read. We began tracking these on a classroom anchor chart, and we starting discussing how these lessons in our books can impact us and make a change in the way we could live our lives differently.

Leader in Me: As a school we had a gallery walk celebrating classrooms mission statements offering compliments on what each classroom has been trying to live by daily. It was great to bring these statements we wrote at the beginning of the year back into focus this past month as it will serve as a reminder for all of us to finish strong.

Content: Researchers discovered trait variation, inheritance, and artificial selection this week, and how it has been used through history. We ended the week with a Designer Dogs activity where students were able to see what puppies would look like when we mix different dog breeds!

A Look Ahead:
  • The monthly newsletter was sent home with students today! Lots of events school wide happening in the month of May!
  • More things to come as we progress through May, but a relatively normal week next week!

Have a great weekend!

Mr. VW
